crochet work in progress

hope all is well with you?!

last week i had no opportunity to write a blog post. we had a final farewell in the family and although not totally unexpected, for us it was too soon. i’m still a little confused, but fortunately for me there are yarn, hooks and crochet.

 

maybe you like to take a look at my wips?

in the house of my mother, i found this simple glass vase, with a minor damage at the top edge, it measures 21 cm high with a diameter of 18 cm. i have crochet a sleek cover of light green catania yarn and at the top a small teal and coral edge.

the spider stitch blanket has only become a little larger. the yarn is stylecraft special dk and the color’s name is saffron, which is a really fresh and happy shade of orange.

 

the slightly variegated green colored bag you see on the picture below is for my sister in law. the yarn is cotone of lana grossa and it feels quite firm which makes it suitable to use it for projects like this. the bag is almost ready, only the top i have to finish and i’m thinking to make a surprising color effect.

 

last but not least, a secret project and it has to remain secret for a while, but i will post more photos as soon as possible. it is pink and lilac and the lilac has a gray undertone. the yarn is the lovely acrylic peques of katia. it feels very soft!

pink and anthracite crochet

hello, how are you? 

last weekend i made it very easy for myself, only a few household chores and some shopping at the supermarket, and of course i watched football (that was not very relaxed…) and of course i crocheted. 

​like this lacy summer scarf for which i’ve used this stitch pattern and anthracite colored cotton viscose of yarnstudio.

i found a ball of yarn (label unknown) that has escaped the trip to england, see here for more info on that. the yarn  i have turned into a few small items: a glass jar cover, a floral motif and a flowery garland.

if you are interested the pattern for the garland can be found via this link and then look for number 8. the only difference with the original pattern and this pink one is 10 chains between de flowers in stead of 20.

small crochet projects and work in progress

how are you? i hope it goes well! 

last and also this week i’ve done a number of small projects, one of leftover yarns and one of yarn which i have because i pulled out a project that did not work for me. let’s call this my second hand green yarn.

i’ve chosen these leftover yarns, tied the ends together and turned them into a ball. a few leftovers i have kept separately for the top and to make embroidery stitches. i found a small ball of black cotton yarn that i once used to make something, but i pulled again.

also i have been working on my orange shawl, which actually will be a blanket, because i have 9 more balls of yarn in this color.

and later this week i will post photos of the crocheted present for my brother and his girlfriend. today i have the package sent to them, but they are both abroad, so i do not know when they actually will see it.

short time ago i told that i was making a birthday present, a bag for my cousin renée. in the week of here birthday, i was ill and i did not have finished the bag on time. last sunday she came to visit me and she said she didn’t mind making a liner herself.

there was another surprise for her: a small bag for her one-year old granddaughter little sophie. but no liner here too:(

so renée went home with two bags and two pieces of fabric. a day later, she emailed me that the bags were finished and below you can see the pictures. she already used hers:)

the past week was not a lazy week: i’ve done two small plant hangers because i didn’t like the old ones anymore. for a new plant, i did not have a suitable pot, and therefore it is now in a glass vase. a new cover was made quickly with double strands of cotton yarn. and a glass tube has a cover too.

how to crochet a planthanger

weekend almost starts!

yesterday i bought some new plants for the garden, but also a few house plants. this sanseveria i wanted for a long time, and the green pot was already waiting for it.

i like to hang plants and plant cuttings next to my front door, the little baskets i’ve crocheted in december, but i also made ​​a new planthanger.

material:

catania cotton, approximately half a ball, optional an extra color for the cord

crochet hook size 3.5 mm and 5.5 mm 

and also optional: beads

a glass jar

 

stitches (american english terms): 

ch = chains

ss = slip stitches

sc = single crochets

hdc = half double crochets

dc = double crochets

fp hdc – front post half double crochet (more info here)

2sctog = 2 single crochets together 

notes:

• all the rows start with 1 ch (does not count as stitch), first stitch or first 2 stitches of a row into same stitch as ss, except when i describe otherwise.
• all rows end with a ss into the first stitch of the row.
• start with a magic loop and leave a long piece of yarn for stringing the beads and fasten off.

• row 1. 8 hdc into loop
• row 2. 2 hdc into each stitch
• row 3. 2 hdc into first stitch, 1 hdc into next, *2 hdc into next stitch, 1 hdc into next stitch*, repeat between * and * until end of row
• row 4. 2 hdc into first stitch, 1 hdc into next 2 stitches, *2 hdc into next stitch, 1 hdc into next 2 stitches*, repeat between * and * until end of row
• row 5. 2 hdc into first stitch, 1 hdc into next 3 stitches, *2 hdc into next stitch, 1 hdc into next 3 stitches*repeat between * and * until end of row

depending on the size of the glass jar, you make more or less rows in which you increase the number of stitches.

• row 8. 1 sc into each stitch
• row 9. 1 hdc into each stitch
• repeat row 8 and 9 to the required height
• and finish with two rows of sc.

edge and cord

• row a. make 4 ch, *sk next sc, 1 dc into next stitch, 1 ch*, repeat between * and * until end of row, ss into third ch of beginning chains
• row b. 1 ch, 1 hdc into first 1 ch-space, *1 fp hdc around next dc, 1 hdc into first 1 ch-space*, repeat between * and * until end of row, end with 1 fp hdc around beginning chains of previous row, ss into first hdc
• row c. make 1 ch, insert hook into same stitch, draw up a loop, insert hook in next stitch, draw up a loop, yarn over and pull through 3 loops on hook, first 2sctog made, *insert hook in same stitch, draw up a loop, insert hook in next stitch, draw up a loop, yarn over and pull through loops on hook*, repeat between * and * until end op row, end with insert hook in last stitch, draw up a loop, insert hook into the same stitch as first stitch, draw up a loop, yarn over and pull through loop on hook, ss into first 2sctog
• cut yarn, finish off.

use the yarn end at the middle of the bottom to string the beads, skip the last bead and pull needle and yarn back through beads and to the wrong side of the planthanger, weave in end.

with double strand and larger size hook, make a number of chains to create enough length to hang the planthanger.

pull cord through 1 chain spaces, knot yarn ends firmly and the planthanger is ready.
