i love garlands in most shapes and sizes. on the photo’s below you can see a very long garland in black, perhaps a slightly unusual color for some of you but you can make one yourself in any color you like.
tutorial
used material
what you need is cotton yarn in one or more colors, your crochet hook and a needle. for the black garland i used catania mercerized cotton in black and sun and a hook size 3 mm, but for this tutorial i chose crocus-like colors lilac and a reddish orange.
used stitches (american english)
- ch = chain
- ss = slip stitch
- sc = single crochet
- h dc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- tr – treble
pattern for cups
- first make a magic ring
- row 1. sc in ring, 2 ch, 11 dc in ring, ss into second ch (= 12 dc)
- row 2. normally if you are working in circles you will make 2 dc into every dc of de first row but now you start with 2 ch, *2 dc into the second stitch, 1 dc into the next*, repeat between * * until end of row (2 dc in last stitch), ss into second ch
- row 3. 1 ch, sc in second dc and in all dc until end of row, ss into the first sc
- fasten of.
notes garland
- probably unnecessary to say that you can vary the number of chains between the motifs and the number of motifs that you make
- you can make the garland as long as you wish, i just give you some examples of stitches you can use
- * * means repeat between * * as many times as you like/until the desired length
